Getting Rid of Water From Your Neighbour’s Property

In most cases, the side property line is the center of the swale between two houses. That being said, if you build a patio right to the property line, you’re putting all of your water onto your neighbour.

In this case, the neighbour built their patio right to the property line. The french drain that we are putting in will not only drain the homeowner’s water, it will also drain the water coming off of the neighbour’s property that they have been dealing with.

This area is always soft, especially after it rains. You can see that there is a downspout running along the fence that ends just past the patio. This has been a difficult area to maintain, the french drain we are putting in will collect all the water, taking it to a catch basin and make it easier to maintain.
